Why I blog

I want to develop my writing skills and share what I am reading with the world. I primarily use my bookstagram (book-instagram) account to follow other readers and bloggers to see what they are reading and excited about. I am not a big poster myself. This is largely because I am not the creative type and I generally feel like my photos fall flat as compared to the more professional bookstagrammers. I try pretty hard to practice self-care by not comparing myself to others. Most of the time this can involve me refusing to put myself out there because I do not want to be put down or looked down upon. Whether or not that is actually self care is debatable. I want this blog to be a place where I can share my book-related thoughts and give recommendations to anyone who wants them.

How can I achieve that purpose?
Well, for starters, I can probably post a bit more about what I’m actually thinking about what I’m reading. I don’t think that I will ever have as big of a following as Sarah’s Bookshelves or Modern Mrs. Darcy, but that’s OK. Like I said, the purpose is for me to put my thoughts to words and help anyone if they want it!

Generally, I shy away from goals because I hate failure. If I don’t set a goal, I can’t fail! But then I am not really holding myself accountable for my actions. So, here I am setting a goal to (at the least) do a monthly wrap up post that has my brief thoughts on everything I have read. I will also be giving a RATING to each book. Giving ratings is new for me because I have trouble disagreeing with others and I tend to focus on the negatives instead of the positives. I am aware of my issues and will do my best to address them.

To paraphrase Julie and Julia (a great book if you’ve ever read one, and an amazing movie adaptation), ‘no one here but us servant-less American readers.’
